The characters' costumes all seem to represent a specific time period, predominantly the '80's and '50's to express the upbeat tone of the video. The hair appears to be generally very short, neat and black. The one exception being a quiff akin to hip 50's movies. The props include a taxi, two neon signs, a lowrider, a bandana, a leather jacket, hair curlers, posters, a white flat cap, two top hats, stage lights and a stadium. The characters include Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson and multiple extras and two main extras. A third extra appears near the end of the song. There are two locations: New York and a stadium where the concert is being performed. The lighting is initially low key at the start of the video and the lighting becomes increasingly high key as the atmosphere livens up throughout the video. The characters' costumes change from scene to scene throughout the video. In one scene, the characters are wearing very hip and street-based clothing, whereas in another scene the characters are wearing glamorous and expensive clothing. The characters' hair styles also vary from scene to scene. In the beginning, the main actor, Beyonce, wears long hair, but then in another scene, the main actor is wearing her hair in curls in the same style as before. The props include a giant fan, studio lights, fire, a car, a high building and a street alley. The settings include a worn road surrounded by old buildings on either side of the pavement (presumably in North America, judging by the rural and desert feel to it), a high building in a metropolitan area (judging by the amount of skyscrapers and building in the background) and the lighting appears to be very high key and natural throughout the entire video. However, the video appears to go through a day and night, as the video starts in the day, then appears at sunset, then at night.
Purpose of a Music Video – Slide Script
Slide 4) Promotion is essential to the success of the artist. If an artist does not promote themselves, then the music that they produce will not be very profitable. It can also help to create a fan base platform. A very good example is the Crazy Frog. Slide 5) When people watch music videos, they may be enticed to buy merchandise that corresponds with the artist or group. Whenever an item of merchandise is bought, a portion of the revenue from that purchase goes directly to the artist or group that it represents. An example is the new Shots selfie app endorsed by Justin Bieber. Slide 6) When artists or groups become popular enough, they may branch out into other types of merchandise in order to gain more revenue. This can include stationary, bags, hats, video games, clothing, ringtones, parodies, etc. A good example is Justin Bieber, who has caused the creation of numerous types of merchandise, including wristbands, plushes, lava lamps, stationary, clocks, caps, bags. Slide 7) In 2015, there are now a variety of different platforms for artists to implant their music onto so that other users can access and listen to it. Originally, artists could only express their music on a music channel, and even then that was only available by well-known artists. Nowadays, you have websites such as YouTube that artists can show their talents on and can be accessed via smartphones and computers. Slide 8) Synergy is when an artist and another source of media co-operate in a way that is helpful to both the artist and another source of media. A good example is Elton John and Tim Rice’s Hukuna Mutata which was used in 1994’s The Lion King, which helped the success of both the film and the song equally. Slide 9) A major record label is essentially a record company conglomerate that controls a large proportion of the global music market and they use many strategies to sell their music. A good example is that they may post their music on a website that either charges people for music or lets people listen for free, but they gain revenue from the ads that are shown during the loading screen. Slide 10) Major independents are companies that have been branched out by, and are still connected, to the major label conglomerates. A good example of this is A&M Records, which was founded in 1962 and has gone on to be the most successful major independent label of all time. Slide 11) Independents are small and new companies that have neither the power, the connections, nor the financial means to advertise or make themselves known to the general public. However, they can still be well known on a smaller scale. They do this by hiring and sponsoring new singers and groups and gaining from their popularity. This is a music channel logo that I made for my music channel, Disco Dynamite. I created the logo on Adobe PhotoShop. I used the Eclipse Tool to create the two disco balls. I also used the Polygon Tool to create the shine effect for the disco balls. As well as this, I also used the Rectangle Tool for the background box for the text and the TNT box and the Text Tool to type the music channel's name, Disco Dynamite, onto the background.
The music video starts with the Led Zeppelin logo, then the rest of the video consists of chalk being drawn on the ground with the song's lyrics being scrawled on the ground, with brief glimpses of symbols relating to band as well as a brief clip of Led Zeppelin playing the guitar in the middle of the video. There is no clear indication as to where the video is filmed, however the guitar clip would have to be in a concert or a room. Also, judging by the ground that the chalk is drawn on, the ground in most of the video would have to be quite hard and rough. The only character that we see in the entire video is Jimmy Page, the band's guitarist. He is seen briefly during the video playing the guitar during random segments of the song. The only prop that we see is the chalk on the ground. It draws the lyrics of the song as well as shapes that are iconic to the band. The type of costume that Jimmy Page wears appears to be quite leathery with a bright on the inner side. There is no make-up in the video, however, the guitarist's hair style is very long and looks quite un-kept. In the start of the video, the video appears very dark and the only source of light is the chalk. The lighting of the video appears to gradually become brighter and more vibrant. The music video begins with a member of the band walking down a metal staircase wearing a suit and a top hat. The shot then pans out to reveal two more members sitting on the same staircase whilst the fourth member plays on a grand piano.
The video cuts to close-ups of the band members signing the lyrics. Fireworks then explode in the air. Then the video includes a member in a white suit in a room of silver pillars with golden centres. The video ends with the entire band walking down a staircase with neon lights flashing, as if they are in a concert and with the top of the stadium emitting red energy rings, almost like a satellite transmitter. There is no clear indication as to where the video is filmed. However, it is either set in a studio with green screen or filmed in an actual stadium. The characters in the video are the entire Take That band: Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Robbie Williams and Jason Orange. They are also accompanied by a group of dancers in golden clothing with gold eye masks and gold head dresses. The props include: the metal staircase, the grand pianos, the pillars, the fireworks and the neon lights at the end. The costumes include the black and the white suits and the clothes that the dancers are wearing. The hair style that the band members have appears to be very well kept and classy. The hair is not visible on the dancers and they do not appear to be wearing any make-up. The lighting of the video appears to very bright and vibrant with coincide with the upbeat and inspiring vibe of the song itself. |
